There isn't a cure for psoriasis but there are treatments that help to keep the condition under control and help with the physical appearance.
Topical treatments are likely to be a first line treatment for psoriasis. These can be creams and ointments applied directly to the skin.
If these aren't effective or the condition worsens then they may need to be referred to a specialist for photo-therapy treatment.
Patients living with psoriasis may suffer with low self esteem and suffer with swelling, pain and tenderness in the connecting tissue.
Patients who's mental well-being is affected by psoriasis should be referred to the pharmacist or their GP.
You can also refer patients to support groups such as The Psoriasis Association.
