You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:-
- If the patient has had a mouth ulcer for 3 weeks or more
- If the mouth ulcer keeps coming back
- If it becomes painful and red or shows signs of infection
- If it is a suspected adverse reaction to medication
- If the patient is also experiencing a rash, diarrhoea or weight loss
