You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:-
- If the indigestion is recurring
- If the patient is in severe pain
- If the patient is over 45 and a first time sufferer
- If the patient has lost weight rapidly without dieting
- If the patient keeps vomiting
- If the patient is taking any other medication
- If the patient has a lump in their stomach
- If the patient has blood in their vomit or stools
- If the patient is having swallowing difficulties
- If they are pregnant or breastfeeding
