You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:- 

  • If the indigestion is recurring
  • If the patient is in severe pain
  • If the patient is over 45 and a first time sufferer
  • If the patient has lost weight rapidly without dieting
  • If the patient keeps vomiting
  • If the patient is taking any other medication
  • If the patient has a lump in their stomach
  • If the patient has blood in their vomit or stools
  • If the patient is having swallowing difficulties
  • If they are pregnant or breastfeeding
