You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:- 

  • If lifestyle changes and OTC medication aren't helping
  • Suffering with heartburn most days for 3 weeks or more
  • Struggling to swallow or food getting stuck
  • Being sick frequently
  • Losing weight for no reason
  • If the patient is taking other medication
  • First time sufferers over the age of 45
