There are some things you can advise customers that will help them to deal with excessive sweating such as:
Clothing:
- Avoid tight fitting clothing, especially under the armpit area.
- Avoid certain colours that will reveal sweat. As a rule of thumb, white and black clothing are less noticeable.
- Avoid fabrics such as nylon or Lycra®
Food:
- Try to avoid hot or spicy foods as they can bring on a sweat.
- Avoid caffeine and drinking alcohol.
Keeping control of sweat in different areas:
- For armpit sweating – use antiperspirant regularly (this stops the release of sweat). Try armpit sweat shields to protect the clothing.
- If soaps irritate the affected skin, try to use a soap substitute such as an emollient or cream.
- For sweaty feet, wear socks to absorb the moisture and change your socks twice daily. Try an absorbent foot powder and try to avoid wearing sports shoes or boots as this can lock in moisture and won’t allow your feet to breathe.
