You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:- 

  • Swelling around the ear
  • Fluid coming from the ear
  • If something is stuck in the ear
  • If they have been in pain for more then 3 days
  • A change in hearing
  • Severe sore throat or vomiting
  • If they have recurring earache
