Cystitis is inflammation or infection of the bladder and/or the opening to the urethra commonly caused by a mild UTI (urinary tract infection).

It is especially common in women, and is usually not serious but can have rapid onset.

The main symptoms of cystitis can include:-

  • Pain, burning or stinging when urinating
  • Needing to urinate more often than normal
  • Urine that is dark, cloudy or has a strong smell
  • Pain low down in the tummy
  • Felling generally unwell, sick, tired and achy

In children, they may have a high temperature, weakness, irritability, reduced appetite and vomiting.
