Advance payments for some clinical services will start being paid to pharmacies in England from this month.
Community Pharmacy England says it has been pressing the Department of Health for some time to include the payments for clinical services in the advance payments that pharmacy owners receive from the NHS Business services Authority.
DHSC has now agreed to this and the NHSBSA has been updating its systems to allow advance payments for clinical services to be made.
This will take time to complete for all services, says CPE, but starting from this month advance consultation fees for Hypertension Case-Finding Service and the Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS) consultations provided in April will be paid to pharmacy owners on the same day as the current advance payment.
Reimbursement for any items supplied under the PCS will also be factored into the calculation for the main advance payment itself, says CPE.
