A regional pharmacy chain based in South Yorkshire has taken the number of branches in its portfolio to five after purchasing two pharmacies in Chesterfield.

Sachin Tammewar, who runs SSS Healthcare Limited, completed a deal to buy Dents of Chesterfield on Windermere Road and Dents Pharmacy in Saltergate (pictured) for an undisclosed price.

Christie & Co, who brokered the deals, said the pharmacies are “well-established, modern, health centre-integrated pharmacies with over 100 years of trading history” together dispensing “an average of 16,000 items per month.”

Christie & Co also said the pharmacies, which were owned by John Dent (Chemist) Ltd, were put up for sale in administration in late 2023.

Carl Steer, director-pharmacy at Christie & Co, said: “It is always regrettable to see any business enter administration but more so with such a long-established brand.

“We were tasked with attracting a buyer on the best terms as soon as possible and quickly gained multiple offers. We agreed a sale with the benefit to the administrator of the buyer entering the pharmacies on a management agreement.”

Steer, who insisted the pharmacy sales market has been “resilient across the Midlands in 2024,” said: “As we go into 2025, we expect more operators seeking to sell from the independent sector, which will be well-served by our large database of first-time buyers and acquisitive small-medium sized groups seeking new opportunities.’’

Pharmacy in Chichester attached to GP surgery sold to multiple operators

Meanwhile, Christie & Co oversaw the sale of Summersdale Pharmacy in Chichester for an undisclosed priced to “multiple operators” Mohamed Amiralli and Kardo Ali “as part of a joint venture.”

Christie & Co said the pharmacy dispenses about 10,000 items a month and is attached to Lavant Road Surgery just outside Chichester town centre. The pharmacy was opened by the surgery’s GPs and after some decided to retire, the remaining GPs put the pharmacy up for sale.

Ali, who said he and Amiralli were “looking forward to building on the excellent foundations laid by the previous owners,” said: “The close relationship with the local GP surgery presents a unique opportunity to provide even greater care and service to the community.

“We’re committed to continuing the pharmacy’s strong reputation while exploring new ways to expand its services and ensure it remains an integral part of the local community.”
