Sigma Pharmaceuticals’ financial director Bhavin Shah completed the London marathon on Sunday as the company helped to raise more than £52,000 for hospitals and charities who have been caring for a young boy who is battling cancer.

The money will go Kings College Hospital Charity, St Mary’s Hospital, Alice’s Arc and Great Ormond Street, who Sigma said have all been “influential” in the care of George Bracey, who was diagnosed in August last year with a rare cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, on his liver and bile duct.

“We hope through raising money for these amazing charities we can make a difference to future children and parents who may end up going down the same road,” Sigma said.

Shah, who completed the 26.2-mile run in five hours, 33 minutes, said: “We were just blown away by the sheer kindness and generosity of the supporters for George.”

Sigma’s co-founder Dr Bharat Shah said: “On a personal level, I am so proud of my nephew Bhavin, who took this worthy cause under his wing and publicised it with such efficiency that the potential for this charitable project has far exceeded all our imagination.”
